Requirements

Majors in Critical Race and Ethnic Studies will take ten courses in (or cross-listed with)
CRES, including:

Students must take 1 Gateways course:
(Gateways courses provide a broad introduction to core concepts of Critical Race and Ethnic Studies in order to demonstrate the relevance of race and ethnicity in academic inquiry.)
Black Europe
Coming of Age at the Border
Colonial Latin America
Spirit Worlds: Early America
African Colonial Lives
Modern Africa Since 1800
Students must take 1 Frameworks course:
(Frameworks courses are centered on one or more theoretical traditions or methodologies applicable to multiple tracks.)
Race, Racism and Anthropology
Abolition Rhetoric
Race & Power
Students must take 3 Intermediate Courses in focus track 1
(Intermediate courses focus on a particular topic relevant to the study of race, racialization, and ethnicity from any disciplinary perspective.)
Civil War and Reconstruction
The Asian American Experience
South Africa & Apartheid
From Blues to Rap
Race, Crime, and Justice
Students must take 1 Advanced Seminar or equivalent project.
(Advanced Seminar and Capstone courses foster students' ability to facilitate critical discussions informed by leading research in the field.)
Students must take 4 additional electives (excluding Gateways) 2
